Yearly events
YFK organizes a wide variety of events throughout the year, some of which are traditional and annual. In addition to these events, YFK offers numerous other parties, sitsis, cultural events, sports events, theme nights, sauna nights, and more. YFK works closely with other student organizations and companies to organize these events. By actively participating, you'll give your mind a chance to relax and create unforgettable experiences that you'll remember for a lifetime.
Autumn Events
Freshman Events
In the fall, new students (tapit) are given the opportunity to get to know each other and their tutors right away during the first evening event, typically held as a picnic. The bonding continues soon after with the lively Freshman Orienteering, which takes place alongside lectures. Orientation week often includes the Freshman Olympics, traditionally held at Hietaniemi Beach.
Smoke Gala
The most elegant and prestigious event of the fall is the Smoke Gala, which is the second-largest event of the year after the Annual Gala. This celebration commemorates the pharmacy department being saved from a fire thanks to the heroic efforts of pharmacists.
Host's Adventure (Pub Crawl)
YFK has its own version of a pub crawl known as Host's Adventure, organized by the current host of YFK. During this event, participants explore bars and pubs near Käärmeenpesä while completing funny tasks to impress the judges and outdo other teams in creativity and enthusiasm.
FiPSA Cruise
In October or November, FiPSA invites pharmacy students from all over Finland for the annual FiPSA Cruise on the Baltic Sea. This is usually the first big event where first-year students officially wear their overalls. It’s a great chance to meet future colleagues from Kuopio and Turku and party all night in the ship’s nightclub, with cabin parties not to be missed!
Fourth's Cafe and Christmas Party
The fourth-year class traditionally raises money for their class trip by running a café and organizing events. Fourth's Cafe opens at the beginning of the fall semester in YFK's club room and continues into spring. The autumn semester culminates in the fourth-year’s Christmas party, which is typically organized as a sit-down dinner (sitsit). Throughout the year, there may be other events if the fourth-year students are active and eager to organize.
Spring Events
Laskiainen (Shrove Tuesday)
In February, the spring semester kicks off with Laskiainen, where YFK students in their black-and-green overalls race down the slopes of Ullanlinnanmäki with other university students. The day ends with various evening events to warm up after a day in the snow.
Annual Gala
YFK’s Annual Gala takes place in mid-February and is the largest event of the year for the organization. The weeks leading up to the ball are packed with events, including Vujusäbä (a fierce floorball match between students and pharmacists). On Valentine's Day, there are usually sitsis, where you can bring a friend as an avec. During this time, YFK also pays tribute to its legendary forefather Sipi Siintola with coffee and buns at YFK in Viikki campus. The Annual Gala takes place on the Saturday closest to Sipi’s Day (February 15th). The Annual Gala is followed by the Sillis brunch on Sunday, where a more casual dress code is recommended, often with customized overalls from sewing nights.
Vappu (May Day)
The spring semester concludes with Vappu, a legendary student celebration. YFK’s Vappu festivities begin with traditional Vappusitsi the night before May Day Eve. Other events during Vappu week include Champagne Yoga, a Vappu Brunch, and a sewing night. On May Day Eve, YFK students ride a special tram to watch the crowning of the statue of Havis Amanda. The night culminates with the Wappupesä party at Käärmeenpesä, an event that sells out quickly and rages into the early hours. On May Day itself, YFK members head to Kaivopuisto, possibly still in their party clothes, to enjoy the festivities.

YFK's Clubs
Clubs are a central part of the activities that bring together members of Yliopiston farmasiakunta. There are clubs for every taste, and you’re welcome to join as many as you like! Whether you want to enjoy good food and drink, engage in cultural activities, or simply play games and relax in the sauna with friends, these clubs offer all this and more. If you have an idea for a new club, feel free to propose it to the YFK’s Club and Sports Coordinator ([email protected]).
Below you’ll find descriptions of the active clubs within YFK. To get involved, simply contact the president of the club. Each club has its own WhatsApp group where you can stay informed about upcoming meetings. Some events are also announced via email.
Sauna Club
Welcome to the Sauna Club! The sauna club meets once a month at the käärmeenpesä to spend time enjoying the heat of the sauna! Our sauna club is open to everyone, so regardless of whether you are a sauna professional or a beginner, you are warmly welcome. Each gathering provides an opportunity to relax, enjoy good company, and share the joys of sauna culture. Additionally, light snacks and drinks will be available for you to enjoy alongside the sauna. Join us and experience the warmth of togetherness and the soothing power of the sauna!
Club president: Matias Westerling ([email protected])
Board Game Club
The YFK's Board Game Club is open to all new and old members interested in board games. We offer both easy and simple games as well as longer and more complex ones to suit every taste. Beginners and more experienced players are equally welcome, and guidance is provided as needed. We usually meet about once a month at Käärmeenpesä, where a selection of YFK’s games is available to play, and participants are welcome to bring their own games as well.
Club president: Emilia Angerla ([email protected])
Wine and Cheese Club
Travel the world of rich flavours, liquid and solid alike, from the comfort of our very own Käärmeenpesä. The Wine and Cheese Club aims for bimonthly wine nights, often with a given theme. Participants are encouraged to bring a bottle of drink and/or piece of cheese originating from or relating to said theme, in hopes of a diverse lineup of drinks and bite-sized snacks. Since our club is primarily funded by its members, do we in no means require top-shelf, finest of the fine items, rather something intriguing and (hopefully) tasty. So, I welcome you all to join us for even just one night of class, taste, and fun times!
YFK's Singers and Musicians
Are you interested in music? How about making music together? Or performing live?
If you answered yes to even one of the above questions, then join YFK's club for singers and musicians! Whether you have a background as a choir member or a shower singer, have attended a music school or are self-taught, or even if you have no background at all, come join us and have fun!
Our goal is to meet about once a month for a singing night (with or without accompaniment) in YFK’s own spaces. The most enthusiastic members of the group can also form a band, which will have the chance to perform at YFK’s Savujuhla and/or Annual Celebration! The content of the performance will depend entirely on the creativity and commitment of the performers. In the best-case scenario, we might even receive performance requests from other student organizations for their annual celebrations!
Club president: Eetu Korpela ([email protected])
YFK's Hikers
Are you interested in hiking but don't have anyone to go with? No worries, because we are now gathering a group of YFK members interested in hiking and outdoor activities!
YFK's Hikers is a new addition to our already extensive range of clubs. Hiking club organizes day trips in Helsinki area and other hiking-related events based on members' interests. Everyone is welcome to join, from experienced wilderness adventurers to complete beginners!
Club president: Elli-Anna Suntioinen ([email protected])
Brunch Club
‘’Brunch is a combination of breakfast and lunch, and regularly has some form of alcoholic drink (most usually champagne or a cocktail) served with it. It is usually served anytime before 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The word is a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch. Brunch originated in England in the late 19th century and became popular in the United States in the 1930s’’
The YFK Brunch Club was established in 2020, with its main activity being the organization of the May Day brunch. The idea behind the Brunch Club is to bring a touch of luxury to the everyday life of YFK members and to connect people who love food and drink. Before each club meeting, it has been customary to agree on the treats everyone will bring for the brunch table potluck-style, and to decide on various possible brunch themes. As a new activity, the Brunch Club now plans to visit different cafés around Helsinki. All YFK members are welcome to join the club.
"Brunch is cheerful, sociable and inciting," Beringer wrote. "It is talk-compelling. It puts you in a good temper, it makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings, it sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week."
Club president: Helmi Venna ([email protected])
Art Club
In the Art Club, members have the opportunity to both create and enjoy art. The club organizes excursions to events suggested by members, such as concerts, performances, and exhibitions. The activities are self-funded, so the cost of events depends on the active members. The Art Club also aims to organize a few events each year at the beloved Käärmeenpesä, focusing on painting or other activities.
Club president: Miro Luusua ([email protected])
Science Club
The Science Club is one of YFK's older clubs, and its purpose is to give members a glimpse into the research side of our field and faculty, offering those interested an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the science of our field with researchers and colleagues.
In general, Science Club events are small, informal seminars where invited researchers present their projects and answer questions. At live events, there may also be some snacks and drinks available. Science Club members can also suggest or request presenters for the events if there are topics they would like to hear about.
Club president: Eliana Nardo ([email protected])
Pharmacy Racket Club
Welcome to the Pharmacy Racket Club! Physical activity and sports are at the heart of what we do, and our club meets regularly to enjoy sports together. While our activities are not limited to just racquet sports, we offer a wide range of opportunities for active participation. Members of the club can influence our selection of sports, so all suggestions and ideas are more than welcome. A special highlight of our activities is the promised baseball match, which provides unforgettable camaraderie and a chance to compete in a friendly spirit. Join us and come enjoy sports and quality time together!
